Description

Creation context

Created in 5 weeks from November 13th to December 15th, 2023 by Charles Defoy, Paul Guehl, Solène Doizelet, Solène Léonard, Victor Birlian and Loïck Noa Obiang Ndong as part of a collaboration between students in their 3rd year of the Game Design program and students in their 2nd year of the Game Engine Programming course at Isart Montreal.

Our goal

Our goal for this project was to create a complete and innovative experience, exploiting the capabilities of virtual reality as much as possible in a restricted space for the Meta Quest 2 using Unreal Engine 5.

Project's description

Ultimate Bastouille is a virtual reality boxing game inspired by Arms, in which the player battles waves of frogs with diverse characteristics. To do this, they have gloves at their disposal, each with unique abilities in addition to being able to be thrown:

  • The sucker-punch, to absorb an object or enemy and use it as a projectile,
  • The gravi-punch, which creates a vortex that draws enemies to its center.
  • The upper-punch, to propel enemies hit with an uppercut into the air.

What I learned

During the creation of this project, I was in charge of programming the various game mechanics and tools for the team. This exercise allowed me to learn more about the quirks and challenges of VR development with Unreal Engine 5. I also had the opportunity to deepen my knowledge of communication between C++ and blueprints by creating various interfaces allowing the team to easily add new types of enemies, gloves and waves. Finally, collaborating with students from another program helped me improve my teamwork and communication skills.
